Plant Details

The Ficus Alii (Ficus maclellandii 'Alii' ) has long, thin leaves, making it a favorite statement tree for those looking for a graceful, refined aesthetic. It exhibits a true tree form with a narrow trunk topped with willow-like branches that will broaden for a full canopy as it matures. Despite its elegant looks, this is one of the easier ficus to care for indoors.

New growth often has a golden-bronze hue that transitions to a deep, olive-like green as the leaves mature. The Ficus Alii is native to Southeast Asia, and as such can be sensitive to cold water which can cause leaf loss. To be safe, hydrate your plant with room-temperature water.

  • Light Requirements

This is a high light plant. It will do best close to a south or west facing window, or directly against a east facing window. We do not recommend placing your Ficus Alli in a north facing window.

Please note that obstructions can cause a considerable decrease in the available light. Windows facing other buildings or alleys, especially on the bottom floors, are particularly susceptible.

The surest way to see if your space receives the light required for a potted plant is to take a light meter reading. Please see our Lighting Guide for instructions.

  • Plant Care

    CARE LEVEL
    Moderate.

    LIGHT REQUIREMENTS
The Ficus Alii thrives in bright indirect light. It can tolerate small quantities of direct sunlight. Alternately it an adjust to medium light spaces over time.

    WATER REQUIREMENTS
Be sure to water your plant upon delivery. Ficus Alii prefer consistent evenly moist soil. Water the plant when the top 1"-2" of the soil are dry. Moderation is key, as overwatering can lead to root rot.

    HUMIDITY PREFERENCE
Medium humidity. Place your plant away from hot or cold air drafts. This plant appreciates an occasional gentle misting to boost humidity indoors. The abundance of leaves collect dust and should be wiped with a clean cloth several times a year.
