Plant Details

The Zamia furfuracea, aka the "Cardboard Palm" is not a palm at all, but a cycad dating back to the dinosaurs days. Its fuzzy,  brittle textured leaves are what earn the plant its namesake. Native to Mexico, this prehistoric plant loves plenty of light, and is somewhat drought tolerant.

Product Overview

  • Light Requirements

This is a high light plant. It will do best close to a south or west facing window, or directly against a east facing window. We do not recommend placing your Ficus Audrey in a north facing window.

Please note that obstructions can cause a considerable decrease in the available light. Windows facing other buildings or alleys, especially on the bottom floors, are particularly susceptible.

The surest way to see if your space receives the light required for a potted plant is to take a light meter reading. Please see our Lighting Guide for instructions.

  • Plant Care

    CARE LEVEL
    Easy.

    LIGHT REQUIREMENTS
Prefers Bright light. Directly next to a window is best.

    WATER REQUIREMENTS
Be sure to water your plant upon delivery. Zamia prefer the soil to dry about ½ way down the pot between waterings. Do not let the soil dry completely, but also be cautious not to over water. Moderation is key.

    HUMIDITY PREFERENCE
Zamia like humidity. However they are tolerant of dry spaces.

    BENEFITS: THRIVES WITH NEGLECT
The Zamia is the perfect plant to the forgetful or often-traveling plant parent. They prefer minimal interaction, and can go several weeks without water before showing signs of thirst.
